bullet UNITE and the Alzheimer's Society haveagreed to establish a UNITE Fund which will be used to fund a research project of benefit to our members.

bullet An estimated 700,000 people in the UK suffer from dementia. The majority are over 65 and most have Alzheimer's. In less than 20 years the number is expected to rise to more than a million. It is a progressive illness. No-one knows the cause or why some people develop Alzheimer's and others do not. It affects the structure of the Brain causing a progressive decline in the ability to remember, understand, communicate and reason.

bullet Currently Alzheimer's is the poor relation of medical funding. £300 per person is spent on cancer research but only £11 per person towards a cure for the 100 deifferent types of dementia.

bullet Roger Turner, General Secretary of UNITE said, "If every member gave a pound this year it would have a life changing impact on many thousands of sufferers and their carers. Any donation however small will be welcome."

bullet You can send a donation to: UNITE Appeal, Alzheimer's Society, Devon House, 58 St Katherine's Way, London, E1W 1JX. Cheques should be made payable to Alzheimer's Society.  We would like to thank all who have donated so far the Alzheimer's Society are more than pleased with over £3000 donated so far.
